Infrared vs. Traditional Saunas

Many prospective buyers are unaware of the benefits of the infrared sauna over a traditional sauna. We are going to take this opportunity to go over the major differences. First of all here is a brief description of each:

The Traditional Sauna is a wooden building where bathers sit on benches splashing water on hot stones of the stove and occasionally they gently beat themselves with leafy birch whisks to open up the pores on the skin. The heat in the traditional saunas is wetter to that of an infrared sauna. This is due the steam from hot stones as well as the heat emanating from the rocks.

The Infrared Sauna provides soothing heat, radiated directly to your body to assist in relieving pain, aches, and strains. Unlike a traditional home sauna where temperatures range from 140° to 190°, infrared saunas range from 105° to 140°. These simple-to-assemble modular rooms heat quickly and penetrate deeply to alleviate muscle tension, induce deep relaxation and promote restful, satisfying sleep.

Maintenance

Clean and Easy

It is often necessary to water drain your floor and is therefore necessary to have waterproof floor such as tile or concrete. In addition, the high humidity levels in a traditional sauna create an ideal environment for the growth of mold and mildew.

Warm- Up Time

An infrared sauna can heat up to operating temperature in as little as 10 minutes. It will produce the same amount of sweat as a traditional sauna but it is quicker and does it at lower temperatures.

A traditional sauna can often take more than an hour.

Assembly Time

An infrared sauna can be installed in about an hour by any homeowner. No special tools, plumbing or electrical work are required.

Traditional saunas are most popularly purchased as do-it yourself kits, which take a few days to install.

Comfort and Safety

Infrared saunas achieve the same benefits at far lower operating temperatures. Also, due to the harsh operating conditions in a traditional sauna, a sound system to enjoy while you're relaxing in your sauna is out of the question. On the other hand, you can enjoy your favorite music in an infrared sauna.

Conventional saunas operate an extremely high temperatures which may be unsafe for the very young or elderly. Further, surfaces in a traditional sauna can reach temperatures that can cause burns.

Health Benefits

Due to the penetrating heat of infrared saunas it can be very soothing on muscles. Infrared has superior technology that directly heats the person, not the air around him/her, providing almost 2-3 times the amount of perspiration the traditional sauna allows for. The infrared energy stimulates blood circulation and all blood vessels fill themselves with oxygen-rich blood that gets transported to your muscles and organs.

Traditional saunas are a harsher environment. It is extreme heat with blasts of humidity from splashing the rocks. The heat extracted from the rocks in a traditional sauna can be very humid and even claustrophobic at times.

Energy Efficient

Infrared saunas consume far less energy than a conventional sauna, hot tub, or steam bath. A typical infrared sauna consumes about the same amount of power as a vacuum cleaner. A typical session in an infrared sauna usually costs mere pennies.

The energy demands a traditional sauna uses are far more than an infrared sauna. An infrared sauna uses multi kilowatts to run the large heater in a traditional sauna.
